SOUNDTRACK OF THOUGHTS. VOL. 10

It has been a while since I posted the latest soundtrack of thoughts. Part of the reason is that the whole spring I was listening to the same music over and over again. However, as days started being warmer, new music was coming to me.

Lines The breath of the morning / I keep forgetting / The smell of the warm summer air always take me back to that boiling summer day in Newport, Rhode Island. Those are lines from Radiohead’s song “Subterranean Homesick Alien” of “OK Computer.” It may not be logical to post the Smell of Warm Summer Air playlist when August is entering its third half. But if you live on the Mediterranean coast that means working 24/7 the whole summer. In the end, people who live near the sea end up not enjoying summer activities at all. My friends and I always joke how our Summer starts from mid-August until September because almost all tourists leave so it is quieter. The weather is still warm but not too hot - better than melting at 35+ degrees Celsius.

The tenth soundtrack of thoughts contains some new summer discoveries like Chappell Roan and Magdalena Bay. Roan has been the biggest surprise for me and I haven’t stopped listening to her music. I became familiar with Ladaniva thanks to Eurovision. They represented Armenia with the song “Jako” and I liked their performance. A few weeks later, I went to their Instagram page and found out that they had released a record called “Postcards” which has covers of songs from different parts of Europe and the Middle East. I fell in love with their version of the Neapolitan song “Dicitencello Vuje.”

To move away from music, Martin Parr’s work also reminds me of Summer. I find his work both hilarious and serious. He can capture everything “ugly” that people usually don’t want to document. Exactly that I find extremely funny and stimulating. I have been a fan of his work for years because he made me look at the world around me in a more nuanced way.
